Big rule changes for 2025

Fisheries evolve and so must we....

The 2024 season has probably been the hardest on record, as mentioned on the Home page we are getting really frustrated that we have so many big carp which aren't getting caught that we feel a change is needed.

We're hoping by shaking things up a bit we might start seeing some of these big fish and improved catch rates across the board.

We've only allowed 2 basic set-ups until now, in-line drop off and lead clip. From 2025 onwards this is all changing with majority of set-ups now being allowed.

VERY IMPORTANT MUST READ
Also great advice for landing the fish of a lifetime.

Echo pool carp fishery doesn't contain any snags. Every winter we drop the level to make sure of this and carry out maintenance throughout the season.

Because of this and the size of the lake heavy duty tackle is totally unnecessary.

Over the years the carp have found various ways of throwing the hook or breaking the line during the fight.

Their latest trick is to swim straight at you and once under the rod tip fight like crazy often causing the hook to rip out. The bigger fish are especially good at this.

Obviously when this happens the carp causes serious damaged to itself and you potential lose the fish of a lifetime.

The only way to prevent this is by having a very forgiving setup and making sure your backing off your drag as your bringing the fish in even if it feels small.

Top tip... If you have a take and it feels like there's nothing there reel like crazy and you'll often find that you make contact with the fish as its swimming straight at the swim. â€‹

Strictly no admittance before 13:00hrs unless we contact you because we've completed all our change over work.

Swim must be vacated by 10:00hrs

Maximum of 3 anglers fishing no more than 3 rods each.
Non fishing guests welcome.

Because the UK and European economies are getting destroyed by our governments we "may" consider allowing 4 anglers in the future to help with costs.

This is a decision we haven't made yet but if interested please contact us to discuss. We'd defiantly only allow 2 rods per angler though.

Carp NEVER to be removed from the water

We supply all equipment for landing fish and dealing with them in the water.

No nets, slings or mats to be brought on-site.

You may want to bring waders which will be disinfect on your arrival.

We have designed the perfect system for dealing with the fish in the water. Details can be found on the Facilities page

All mouth and body wounds must be treated with high quality carp care products. We supply body treatment. Please call us round for any serious damage.

Carp Bait

Only fresh freezer boilies to be used and must be in original packaging.

No nuts of any description

No artificial baits this includes cork balls and bait stops with large heads designed to look like corn etc.

Particle mix must be bought from us.

Exceptions to this are jars of hemp etc but only from the main bait companies and in original sealed packaging. Tinned sweetcorn is also permitted.

Maggots and worms allowed but in limited amounts. Please contact us to discuss before arrival.

Pellet must be bought from us. We spend a small fortune feeding the carp the highest quality pellet and don't want an inferior product being used.

You can bring a SMALL amount of micro pellet for use in bags or sticks.

Please use a sensible amount of bait.

Depending on time of year and weather conditions the lake requires a minimum of 10kg per 24hrs and that just to maintain health and weight.

If you break this down over 6 rods being redone every 12 hours that’s only 800g per rod.

A couple of average sized carp can clear a 2kg baited spot in a matter of minutes. Please keep this in mind when deciding how much bait to bring.

Hooks

Only allowing one hook pattern and keeping the carp in the water are our most important rules.

Breaking either will be an instant ban and you'll be leaving immediately.

We strictly only allow 1 type of hook.  NO EXCEPTIONS

It's proved to be an absolute game changer for our fishery.

Read HERE for full explanation and very impressive statistics.

Your hook must be as follows.

BARBLESS wide gape with a beaked point and in-turned eye.

See images.

General Tackle Rules

Main line.

MAXIMUM breaking strain of 15lb. We recommend 12lb for reasons mentioned above. NO BRAID.

Hook link.

You can use any material. MAXIMUM length 10 inches. Please don't use the old school stuff that acts like cheese wire cutting the fishes mouth.

LEAD SYSTEMS.

Regardless of the system you're using the weight MUST release with ease if snagged.

If using a running rig or some form of helicopter set-up please ensure the weight/hook link can pass freely along the main line in case of cut off.

Use common sense and don't fish with a system that's known to be unsafe.

NO ZIG RIG OR SURFACE FISHING.

DO NOT CAST AT FISH SITTING ON THE SURFACE.

DO NOT FISH IN THE OUT OF BOUNDS AREA WHICH IS CLEARLY MARKED.

NO LEADCORE.

MAGIC TWIG IS BANNED.

As new items come on the market we will asses them for their use and they may be added to this list.

We reserve the right to change rules without any prior notice.
